Genesis 17:1-18:33: These two chapters are loaded with nuggets!!! First God tells Abraham to walk before Him and be blameless. Blameless has many definitions; it means to walk in integrity and truth, to be above suspicion, clean and righteous, virtuous, unspotted, upright, faultless, undefiled, and without blemish. God gives us the same instructions in the New Testament: 2 Peter 3:14 and Philippians 2:14-15 are two examples.
God is very serious about the way we conduct and live our lives, representing His kingdom, around other people. Our lives are to be a testimony of the change that takes place when we are born again and the continual progress we make as we renew our minds to the Word of God. We are living testimonies of His mercy, grace, and power to live righteous and obedient lives in the midst of a world that is going crazy.
In Genesis 17:5, God changes Abram’s name to Abraham and declares the promises connected with his name change. When we are born again, we have a name change from sinner to saint, from unrighteous to righteous, from weak to strong in the Lord, from a slave to a ruling king!!!!! (Romans 1:7, 5:17; 1 Corinthians 1:2, 14:13; Ephesians 1:18; Ephesians 6:10)
In Genesis 18, He is the God of the impossible!!!! Sometimes, we find ourselves facing some impossible odds in the natural and we even laugh, within ourselves, when someone mentions the promises of God’s Word. We are just like Sarah when she laughed at God’s promise thinking it is too late even for a miracle. But look at verses 13 and 14; glory to God, there is nothing too hard for our God!!!
We live in a Sodom and Gomorrah day (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Don’t let the world influence you to compromise, stay strong and be focused. Say no to all temptation, unrighteousness, and ungodliness. (Titus 2:11-14; 2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1)
Matthew 7:21-23: Just because someone operates in the gifts and power of the Holy Spirit doesn’t mean they are living a righteous life. The power is dangerous if our behavior does not line up with love, righteousness, and obedience. Be careful who you follow!!!!
Matthew 7:24-26 shows us the importance of reading and studying the Word of God. I hope you will consider taking one of the Discipleship classes on Wednesday evenings to build a strong foundation!!
