Provision for the Assignment | Wednesday, January 23, 2019

By: Pastor Arthur O’Neal

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth…” Genesis 1:26-28 NKJV

After God blessed them and expressed His desired purpose for mankind in verse 28, then He shows them what He has provided for them to sustain their lives in verse 29. Notice the order– first, the assignment and then, the provision. After mankind sinned against God in Genesis 3:6-7, God kicked mankind out of His kingdom. Then He tells them that mankind now must eat from the ground through their own “toil” and “sweat” for food.

Outside of God’s kingdom, mankind now sees provision as his assignment. And therefore, we are taught to think, plan, and choose careers based upon what money and benefits are provided to sustain our lives. Ultimately, our dreams get disappointed by the responsibility for provisions.

In Matthew 6:33, Jesus teaches that we should seek out God’s kingdom and to stay in right-standing with God as our primary assignment. What about our provision? “…all these things shall be added to” us because God already knows what we need. In His kingdom, He takes on the responsibility for our provision as we stay focused on His assignment for our lives.

So, how can we apply this to a fast? You can rest assured that as you seek the Lord, wherever God leads, know that as His child, His assignment for you is His priority for you and He will provide the resources for you to accomplish it (2 Corinthians 9:10).

Let’s praise Him for direction and provision!
