How Much Does This Cost? | Friday, January 25, 2019

“Draw near to God and he will draw near to you…” – James 4:8a NKJV
Often when I go shopping I will come across an item that I really want and it is missing the price. Immediately, I will search for the sales associate and ask, “How much does this item cost?” Once I am given the price, I stop to think: “Is this worth my investment?” In comparison with our corporate fast and our relationship with God, what will it cost you?
As you focus on the days remaining, are you going to focus on the foods you can and can’t eat? Or are you ready to go deeper with God? The Bible says, “Draw near to God and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8a) In order to draw near to God, we must be willing to surrender and die to self.
The word “surrender” according to Webster’s Dictionary means: ‘(a) to yield to the power, control or possession of another upon compulsion or demand.’ Surrendering feels uncomfortable because it is action on our part. It requires us to let go and let God have His way during this fast. Once you surrender, you must listen effectively to God, read your Bible, and pray daily (2 Chronicles 7:14). This changes our perspective about the corporate fast and returns us to intimate fellowship and worship with God!
A dear friend once told me “In order to fully be who God has called you to be you must completely die to self. Count up all the cost, none of you and all of Him!” And so I challenge you to to take this time and commune with God. He is waiting for you.
Let’s enter the holy of holies together!!
