“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16 NKJV
I still can recall the times when I gave my life to the Lord and even though I knew I had confessed Him as Lord, I still kept messing up. In my heart I knew that I was saved, yet I was still getting angry, had wrongful thoughts, and all of the things that I was told were the “old man” felt like they were all still there. Until someone told me that this is a walk of faith and that the renewal of my spirit had to be developed in order to withstand evil (fleshly) things. In the midst, I was amazed that I stopped some things immediately, yet, some things were still there.
We live in a generation where it seems that we are more worried about quick, instant change, but we must come to understand that the heart takes time to develop. We must understand that the outward (the old us) man perishes daily, but our inner man, which is our spirit (the born-again us), is being renewed day by day. In that, we are being transformed to the image of God by the way of renewing our minds and developing a character of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22).
So, during this fast we must meditate on the Word and remember that we have a Mediator and Someone who knows what we are going through (Hebrews 4:16). Continue day by day developing yourself to maturity in Him.
